After recently coming back from my extensive visit to Asia, my brain has become completely overhauled. My experiences have led me to rediscover many things about how I work and the purpose of what I do.

The site, as I've mentioned before, will undergo a major update once I get all the pieces put back together.

I will make updates on my blog

Orphan Works Bill/Congress

Those of you who keep up with information regarding the visual arts have most likely already heard about the Orphan Works Bill gestating in congress. Boundries and ownership in visual art are already shaky enough, and passing a new bill that renders work authorless unless commercially registered just opens the doors even wider for ownership conflicts, paranoia, and propel a culture of stealing where imagery is unconsciously seen as public property. In the age of the internet, images are shown, swapped, downloaded, and whatever else. Often times the images are not tagged with the creator of the work. The spirit of creativity needs to be respected and celebrated, and the balance between art and commerce checked. For more information, take a look at this link. It's important for artists or anyone interested to voice their opinion and take action!

Bubble

it’s easy to lose perspective. being too concerned with pleasing others and having preconceptions about what is “acceptable” can make things a mess.

others will see only what you can give them.  they don’t know what is in your head. worrying about expectations too much and what others might want from you is self-defeating. that anxiety ultimately exists only in the mind. collaboration is an exchange and negotiation. give your best each moment and learn from it. that's all anyone can expect.

i occasionally get asked what going to art center in pasadena was like, and if it was worth it.  the answer is not so simple. just like anything there are benefits and a downside as well.  the experience and exposure to diverse talent, the excellent instructors, all provided a rich learning environment. but don't let the glamour and sparkling reputation of the place speak for itself. there's a lot to consider. feeling lost was not an uncommon experience for me, but that's what learning is about; constantly finding, expanding and breaking down the walls. there are endless paths that can be traveled if there is a desire for it. school is just one of them. was it worth it? yea, i think so, but so would any other decision I would have made to further explore the medium. there will never be a time when the work will feel good enough.

the journey is often more rich than the destination. the creative process is made up of our experiences with everything inside and out. it’s both intellectual and instinctive. there is no right way. rules are constantly made and broken. trends live and die quickly.

staying true to the process, having enough discipline, being aware of the world, and being adaptable to change are good things. doubt is the killer of all progress. in the end, people won’t care. just do what you have to do. it's never enough, and it will never end.

AWARENESS

Ever get that feeling each day just feels like a repeat of the day before? It's almost like the mind is in auto mode, and every action just a mindless chore. It's just one of the worst feelings.

When that happens, it's a definite sign to wake up. Small changes make a big difference, and being aware of ourselves is crucial. Becoming totally aware is very difficult during hard moments, but it's really crucial to be able to see things objectively. Sometimes I get so involved in the negative aspects of things, I sort of become a part of it, and identify with it. It really is about our point of view and how we choose to respond to the world. We can only change ourselves. How can people expect to force change on others when they can't even help themselves?

I believe the human spirit can only be suppressed for so long. When society and obligations to fill certain roles become constricting, it will definately be felt, and how we react and act is entirely up to the individual.
